In the modern world Professional Tryouts for school students, especially for teenagers, provide the opportunity to get acquainted with various professional activities and to assess their interests and capabilities. Participating in Tryouts (excursions, extracurricular lessons, diagnosis, involvement in practical activities, public events) students take more responsibly to prepare for their future careers. The task of the teacher is to model the basic elements of each activity and to analyze the job market trends.

I have been training IT professionals for almost 20 years by now. I used to train schoolchildren, college students, school leavers, university students, grown-ups and accomplished IT professionals. There have been many experiments with trainees. Some things worked, others obviously didn’t. At STACHKA 2017, I would like to share my experience and my view at internship arrangements for IT students. My report could be interesting to teachers and people from higher education community, my counterparts from IT companies, IT students and, perhaps, also to school teachers and coaches from creativity centers.

How to make a student interested and engage him into IT? The most important thing is how to keep his interest throughout the entire educational process from school to the university graduation? Can we be sure that he will continue his movement in the IT field after graduation? Together with you, we will try to understand these issues, to determine whether it is a myth or reality. The report is based on the experience of the Computer School of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies, in particular, and the whole department in general.

In the end of the subsection “Training of IT professionals”, we will gather in a circle to discuss pressing problems, share opinions, get to know each other. We invite representatives of IT faculties of universities, employees of IT companies involved in training, and, of course, it will not do without teachers of computer science and not only computer science. Come in - let's talk!

After five years of work with schoolchildren and students, I concluded that the three major factors that affect the success of learning are motivation, time and complexity. The first factor is favourable, while the other two are not. I offer the ways that being applied to programmers training help to:

  • Save your time;
  • Keep motivation;
  • Reduce complexity.

New people, new rules. We will find out what modern students, applicants and students share in their attitude to studies. Define which motivation factors are now void, and which ones come to the fore. ‘We-follow-the-program’ approach vs ‘We study-with-our-own-pace’. Compare the results of traditional and individual approaches to learning and analyze their strengths and weaknesses. From general approach to specific tasks. What is preferable for practical training: small well-formalized tasks or a large creative concept? Study experience in supporting educational projects.

See you!
